Comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko (Rosetta Mission) 3D reconstruction

The International Rosetta mission has been a great success and a very inspiring achievement.

Images from the NAVCAM are available at https://imagearchives.esac.esa.int/index.php?/category/56 under the Creative Commons license (ESA/Rosetta/NAVCAM – CC BY-SA IGO 3.0) so i chose to download some of the images from the comet phase to reconstruct the comet using 3DF Zephyr. Specifically, i used the prelanding phases MTP006, MTP007, MTP008 and MTP009.

Those four datasets roughly account for 3000 photos, of which i selected a subsection (removing clearly bad photos and such).

Of that subsection, 3DF Zephyr successfully processed the structure from motion phase with more than 1800 cameras.

It's very interesting that most images are 1024x1024 pixels, and yet, also very odd looking 62x1024 pixels images have been correctly oriented too.

I then obviously proceeded down the full 3DF Zephyr pipeline in order to generate a textured mesh. The following video shows a result of this 3D reconstruction that has been made possible by the images taken during the Rosetta mission.
